review > O2 Broadband Review
As is quite normal our service is throttling our bandwidth during peak times. Not a big problem you think? Wrong!
For the casual user
Great download speeds during off-peak especially and is very decent at streaming multimedia such as BBC iPlayer and QuadV.
For Gaming
When you play any kind of online game the response time between you and the server is one of the most important things. Which is generally measured by your ping.
During roughly 6pm to 12pm my ping will be 110/140ms to Google(!) and in generally any game server in the UK! As soon as it hits off-peak ping will drop quickly back to 40/60ms every day without exception.
This severely limits online play to one or two games that are not dependant on quick reactions. During the time you are most likely to play games you basically can't!
Conclusion
We are using the standard 8mb package and while it's cheaper it's not worth it at all. Avoid this provider like the plague if you do any kind of gaming that requires quick reflexes.
Maybe if you are a casual internet user and you do not require your internet to be fast all the time this might not be that bad, but in this day and age I've come to expect a reasonable ping during peak times.
